We all have our favourite store cupboard staples. For some it may be pasta or potatoes, for others it may be rice and soya sauce, but being home a lot over the past few weeks has really got me thinking about our store cupboard staples. What we have lurking in the back of the cupboard that is waiting to be transformed into something tasty, it just takes a little thought and imagination.

Taste the Love @ Home wants to be your helping hand in the kitchen, giving you some ideas for how you can eat well and create quick, tasty meals that sit alongside your home delivery meals. Life is hard right now and we need to think about how we can make it a little easier if it is only one meal at a time.

Store Cupboard Staples

I thought I would give you a little sneak peak into my home store cupboards for you to see what I can’t go without.

Thing you will always find in my cupboards:

Pasta
Rice
Flour
Lentils – Most likely red, yellow and green
Tinned Beans – Chickpea, butter bean & kidney are my staples.
Tinned Tomatoes
Chilli Sauces *
All the vinegar.  Red Wine, White Wine, Cider & Balsamic. All of these will help lift a dish and give it the extra zhuzh.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Vegetable Oil
Salted Butter

Herbs and Spices:

Coriander
Cumin
Tumeric
Oregano
Rosemary
Smoked Paprika
Marmite
Veggie Stock
Maldons Sea Salt
Table Salt
Black Pepper

And in the fresh stuff:

Potatoes
Carrots
Frozen Peas
Garlic
Onions
Lemon
Ginger
Fresh herbs if I can get them. flat leaf parsley, coriander and basil are my go to.
Cheese. The two cheeses I will always have in is a really good mature cheddar (because it is the king of cheese in my opinion) and Parmesan. Parmesan is the perfect umami addition to so many of the dishes I love to make, it can keep for ages, even if its a bit hard and sad looking!

* I have, some would say, an unhealthy amount of chilli sauces. Whilst having a cupboard spring clean a couple of weeks ago, I found 11 chilli sauces (Tabasco & Encona were the only ones that were doubled up, Encona is the king of chilli sauces in my opinion, but this conversation deserves it’s own thread!) You have to have a different chilli sauce for different foods. But that is my staple, it may not be yours!
