It was an absolute pleasure to be asked by T & L to cater for their Latin American themed wedding at Torr Vale Mill.
If you are looking for an awe inspiring, jaw dropping industrial wedding venue with a fantastic juxtaposition of industrial grit and hardy Northern nature, Torr Vale Mill is just the venue for you.
Torr Vale Mill
Bulit in the 1700’s and powered by the convergence of two rivers – the Sett and Goyt, Torr Vale Mill produced textiles for over 200 years, only ceasing in early 2000’s, making it the longest continuous production in the UK.
After it was closed it fell prey to vandalism and fire destroyed one of the main buildings, but a local family saw it’s potential and now it is not only home to a unique and exclusive wedding venue, but there are also individual office and retail spaces, three holiday cottages (which are great for the bridal party!) and The Shrub Club – a dog friendly boutique bar.
When we went on a recce to see the venue and meet the owners I was absolutely blown away by the drama of the the building, its location and it’s sheer size. The place is huge and it is nestled into the side of the hills making the view points around the site so different. The whole place is dramatic.
The newly renovated event space has large doors that lead out onto a giant terrace overlooking the river and the sweeping millennium bridge, making this venue a perfect alternative wedding space.
Latin American Food
They wanted a Latin American Themed Menu to compliment their Latin American themed wedding. There was so much colour and vibrancy planned for the wedding decor that I wanted to be able to match it with colour and vibrancy in the food.
They wanted an informal, sharing style feast with lots of colour and flavour and then a dessert table that guests could help themselves to.
On the menu:
Guacamole
Pico de Gallo
Puré de Pallares – Bean Dip
Fresh Cut Tortilla Chips
Slow braised Beef Brisket
Warm Potato Salad with Chimichurri Dressing
White Bean, Tomato & Cucumber Salad
Blue Corn Tortillas
Dessert Table
Dulce De Leche Sticky Toffee Pudding
Triple Chocolate Brownies
Having lived in Mexico and running a hostel there, being able to recreate Latin inspired flavours was just magical. The flavours are bold, fresh, colourful and want to create a fiesta in your mouth.
We are not scared of flavour here at Taste the Love and getting the right balance whilst creating a menu that would please everyone was a joy to see at service. I was also so happy we were able to source blue corn tortillas as corn tortillas are the only tortillas you can get in Latin America, no flour tortillas here thanks, so this was just the perfect finishing touch for an authentic flavour palate.
The highlight of my day was seeing the wedding party parade across the millennium bridge straight into one of the Mill’s many terraces. Just Magical. I even made them some popcorn to accompany their arrival drinks because you can’t have a Latin fiesta without popcorn!
Congratulations T & L and thanks for letting us be part of your colourful fiesta!
